Corsets On The Brain

Filed in Behind the scenes | Corporate Culture | Products 9 Comments

We are always busy at Hips and Curves and today was no exception.  I love so many things about working at Hips and Curves but what I really like is that we are always thinking outside of the box.

I received an email about a week ago requesting my presence at a brainstorming meeting.  The email asked me to bring any and all ideas, no matter how big or small, to our holiday corset design meeting.    I went on line and researched my wish list of vintage corset ideas, my dreams of an hourglass figure and the added plus of great posture were in my sights.  Am I the only girl that loves the “Marilyn” figure?

Today was the day.   With my wish list in hand I kicked my shoes off, grabbed a seat on one of our many comfy couches along with everyone else and the fun began.   Everyone brought their “A” game, big, small, extravagant, wild and sexy; all ideas were welcome in this brainstorming event!  Marcy was writing down feverishly as one idea topped the next.  Pizza was delivered and the ideas kept coming for an amazing few hours.

That was fun – I am so excited to see the final list.  I really do hope a couple ideas from my wish list make the cut.    Stay tuned to see which beautiful new corsets made the coveted list!

By the way, did you all order the Contessa? I am waiting for mine, oh and the Cinderella petticoat!

Hips and Curves loves Jill Scott

Filed in Behind the scenes | Pop Culture 9 Comments

We all know Jill Scott is amazing so we were honored when her stylist asked us for a corset for Jill’s Essence Magazine article! We were so thrilled to see the creative way the stylist had Jill wear our plus size corset. We understand that not every venue is the appropriate place for in-your-face cleavage!

According to the neo-soul diva, Ms. Scott in the early days had a trainer who told her if she didn’t lose weight she would never sell a record. Wonder how many Grammys the trainer has won?

What Lies Beneath: Forget the Wedding Dress, It’s the Corset that Counts

Filed in Products 8 Comments

Okay, brides-to-be…let’s talk. Most brides believe their wedding dress makes their special day, whether it’s strapless, an A-line silhouette or a princess ball gown layered in yards of beads, satin and lace. Whatever style is “you,” you want to look your best and feel great about your choice.

But once your dress dilemma is solved, you still have to figure out what to put on underneath. You start browsing the endless displays of bras—until it hits you. Why not wear a corset? A plus size corset supports, shapes and enhances an hourglass figure. It also does double duty as a sexy wedding night ensemble.

Wearing a corset used to mean you were laced into place to the point of not being able to breathe. Today this undergarment and its counterparts—the Long-Line Bra, the Basque and the Merry Widow—are sleek, flattering, and don’t make you wait to exhale.

Although corsets with satin ribbons up the back might be pretty on a honeymoon, they are probably not the best choice under a form fitting dress. Ribbons are pretty but can be bulky. Try a long line bra or merry widow with a hook and eye back and save the ribbons for when you and your man are role-playing Big Bad Movie Mogul and Innocent Ingénue on Saturday night!

Check out these six seductive styles, which all have underwire support and are cut low enough to accommodate any neckline:
