Oh, what a wonderful Winter!

Well ladies, Winter is quickly approaching! We have had our Halloween fun (oh what fun it was! Especially with sexy H&C costumes galore in the office), we’ve set the clocks back, and we’ve had our fill of Thanksgiving (literally). We’ve put our shorts in the closet and pulled out our jeans and sweaters (well, I am in Cali- winter coats may be a bit too much).  ;-)

Every Fall/Winter it happens to me.  Those of you on the East coast may think that a West-Coast-Winter is nothing to worry about, but when we go from 100 degrees straight into a 50 degree evening I am desperate to rummage through my closet for some warm snuggly pajamas and a nice comfy, cozy robe.  And I think that no matter where in the country (or world!) you are, there just isn’t much that beats the feel of cozy jammies and a soft, warm robe.  Just picture it, a comfortable long sleeve night shirt or cuddly oversized wide neck tee and a luxurious robe wrapped around you as you sit in front of the fire sipping warm apple cider or some indulgent hot cocoa.  Heavenly idea, right??

And to my glee, what do I see on HipsandCurves.com this season?  New comfy oversized tees, soft snuggly shawl robes and the most adorable and soft ruffle wrap robe! I am ecstatic.  I know what you’re thinking; I am a cheese-ball. It’s silly to be so excited over comfort.  Who really cares about sleepwear?  Say what you will, but honestly nothing gets me quite like cozy jammies.  They are my addiction.  I can’t even tell you how many pairs of PJ’s I have.  And don’t even get me started on slippers… *giggle*

So, with much pleasure and joy, I recommend a close look at our new robes, tees and sleep shirts, as they will certainly warm your heart (and body!) this winter.  I am thinking of going as far as to revisit the idea of pajama Fridays at the office.  I wonder if I can get the gals to join me in the cozy comforts of a super-casual Friday?

Re-define the Norm

Filed in Plus Size Models | Self Love 4 Comments

Okay. I was having a girls’ night the other night and before the movie we started talking about women’s studies and somehow got onto the topic of women’s image. We went all over the place; talking about suffrage, women’s rights, the lack of chivalry and politeness in general (sorry guys, but chivalry just isn’t as common as it used to be!) and of course, women’s self esteem and self-image in the world today.

There once was a time any man would hurry to open a door or pull out a chair. You would pass by and hats would tip to you left and right. In the society we live in now, that has become a rarity. These days it’s more common than not, to have an elevator door close on you as you rush to make it in, and hats are left on as if stuck with superglue.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying all men behave like this. It’s just the number of those who have lost their manners has increased dramatically over the last few generations. There are still some men (and if you find one, keep him!) that will open the door for you, and not only you. To be a true gentleman they will hold it for you and the group walking in behind you. They will hurry to open your car door, and let you pass ahead of them as you walk through a tight squeeze on the sidewalk.

Some would argue that this decline in society contributes to the lack of self esteem and self respect that we see in the women of today. I even heard a close friend of mine say “Men make me feel the worst about myself. Sometimes I feel as if I don’t even deserve to have a door held open for me anymore.” We know it isn’t anything personal men, but women are complicated and observant beings and the little things mean a lot. I’m sure it also stems from the difference in how boys and girls are raised. Girls are brought up awaiting their fairytale prince and being told to stay clear of the wrong kind of guy. However boys these days are being taught less and less about manners and chivalry, replacing Cotillion with PS3′s and YouTube. Continue Reading

Betty Page

Filed in Plus Size Models | Pop Culture 3 Comments

Well, you may or may not have heard this yet but beloved 50’s pin-up icon, Betty Page, passed away on December 11th, 2008 from pneumonia. She was 85 years old.

Whether you are full-figured or thin, conservative or free-spirited, sweet or sinful,  we all loved Betty Page. She was a leader in the women’s sexual revolution and helped to usher in a new era of awareness for our gender (and our admirers).

Betty truly knew how to walk that thin line between reality and fiction, the line between the sweet girl next door and the sinful woman of one’s dreams. Whether you want to admit it or not, she was everything that many woman dreamed to be.

Working with plus size lingerie, I have seen how important it is for us as women to possess confidence in all we do and all we are. It is so important for us to find the beauty within ourselves and let it shine outwardly. Not only our appearance, but in how we carry ourselves and the presence we carry with us wherever we go.

Some may call Betty scandalous, some may call her a sex goddess, but others would be perfectly content calling her a role model for women. She is a role model for those who seek to find that inner confidence and grace that we should all share as women, especially full figured women. No matter your size, color, or shape, we are all beautiful.

Betty, you will be missed.

Bud Heavy

Filed in Pop Culture 11 Comments

I just received a link to this youtube video.  It’s a spoof on a Bud Light ad entitled “Bud Heavy”.  I really felt like I was going to enjoy watching it as soon as the man in the video asked his stick thin girlfriend why she only drinks light beer.  She slaps him after he makes a reference to her being “small boned”.

Cut to a clip of three plus size women.  Although they appear sexy and confident, I can’t figure out if this is a spoof about fat women or a spoof about light beer.  Either way, it left me feeling uneasy.

Check out the video here.  What do you guys think?
