Australia’s Next Top Model

Australia’s Next Top Model is searching for contestants, and for the first time is considering the possibility of plus size models for their fifth season.  They follow in the footsteps of America’s Next Top Model, who chose Whitney Thompson as their winner last season. Surely this is in response to the scrutiny that the modeling industry has received about the deaths of rail thin fashion models over the past few years.

Charlotte Dawson, Australia’s Next Top Model judge, who is a modeling veteran herself, says “The only problem I have is that the winner of Australia’s Next Top Model needs to go out immediately and work, and there’s not a lot of plus-sized work available in Australia.”

Who knows, maybe this will spark some interest with designers in Australia, forcing them to reevaluate their offerings and add plus sizes to their collections.

P.S. – I styled Charlotte’s hair for a week last year while Australia’s Next Top Model filmed a couple of episodes in Los Angeles.  She was tons of fun to work with!

I worked on an next top model australia production and didn’t see any plus girls. Maybe they just weren’t there when I was working. Girls in Australia all sort of look alike, I wonder if they think the same for girls in the states?

P.S. I LoVe Hips and Curves!!! Thank you for starting a blog!

Not enough work for Plus Size models in Australia is “put bad word here”! I live in Australia and all the plus size modle agencies keep saying they can’t get enough girls to fill the work they have coming in so no offence to Charlotte Dawson but she might want to go out and check the facts before she makes comments like this.

As for the girls all looking alike (nochonie _LA) depends where you are in OZ unfortunatly the Barbi Beach Girl (blond hair, big chest, tand, size 8) is alive and well especially in the costal cities and everyone that ends up on things like AustNTM seems to fit this pattern (even the boys). However when you get to met the real women who live here we come in all shapes and sizes and about the only thing in commen we have is our sassy nature.
